The drive was originally formated as a primary partition. Did you use partition magic to remove all logical drives "and the primary partition" and then prep as an "extended partition" which is what it should be!

And what did partition magic say about the drive? Size etc!

And does the CMOS/BIOS properly detect the drive? Is this where you got this 3.0 size or from windows?

If you see this from windows is sounds as if you are seeing a small logical drive on the disk and the rest is unpartitioned and unformated??!!

If the CMOS/BIOS reports the correct drive and size then your problem should be related to how the disk is partitioned and formatted!

If you see additional drives using my computer or your windows is now on no longer on C: drive then you have installed the drive with a primary partition and it can move the order of your drives. If so and you are not careful you may think you are formating or working on the new drive when in fact you you are formating your original drive!

Answer these questions for me and i may be able to help more!

    Mike!

    Hi Mike,

I see the 3.0 in windows and the Partition software. I dont' know if it's a partition or what?!?! I thought I cleared it all but maybe not. I formatted it and deleted everything and they all say the same size. I don't know how to do the BIOS etc. on Win2000........

I need to eat, I'm so spun and tired.............

CMOS/BIOS has nothing to do with windows.

Most you access by hitting del while booting some F1. But if you watch the screen while booting it will tell you something about entering setup etc.

If you have never been there and do go there be very careful. Usually on the first screen you will see something like Primary master and primary slave. Your original drive should be the primary master. So what does it say about the primary slave?

What kind of computer brand etc are you using? And what brand of drive is this!

I will see your answer in the morn! It is 10 PM here an i get up at 5:00 in the morn! So goodnight for now!

    Don't purr in your sleep!

    At your service,
    Mike

CMOS/BIOS has nothing to do with windows.

    mflynn

Would you please explain a little more why you think that ?

Due to my findings I see things as being quite different.

I find that the BIOS/CMOS settings do have an effect on how well Windows does or does not work.

If the CMOS/BIOS and Windows do not agree there can be a fight between the two, FALSE HD readings, conflicting IRQs, lockups and general Windows problems down the road.

When I got this new MB it took me at least two days of making changes to get the BIOS, Hardware and Windows setup so that they would all work and play nice together.

And one setting that made a HUGH difference was the PNP OS installed. YES/NO. NO works best for me.

    Kittie Cat

This may not be ( or is not ) true in your case but I have had several improper HD size readings due to an improperly set BIOS/CMOS.

BIOS said one thing ( which turned out to be wrong ) , Windows said another. And Partition Magic said something different yet.

And all because I did not reset the BIOS/CMOS position and/or jumber the HD properly when I changed the old or added a new one.

Hello good to hear from you!

    Simplistic answer for her!

    She said "I cain't access CMOS/BIOS when in (windows 2000) "

CMOS/BIOS has everything to do with the Operating system but not specificially win2k! In other words win2k would not stop access to CMOS/BIOS!

I think from what she last said that she went to the Fujitsu site and checked the model number and found it was in fact a 3.0G!

Glad to see you are paying attention! Smile!

I hope the weather in Marlboro is good! We had have several rainy days here and I love it! Both because of the rain which we badly needed but also because it is cooler!

    Later,
    Mike

    Thanks for the reply.

I think we have things cleared up nicely.

I have also had a problem with disk size and solved the same way.

:) But as you can read from my reply I have also had a few that should not have been :) and would not have been if I had been carefull to start with.

The weather here is fine TODAY. A couple of days ago I began to think that the roof was leaking badly as everything in the house was wet. Temp not too high but humidity was VERY high. It was warm and wet enough for me to take the sides off of the PC and set a fan up to move the air around in the room.

We also had a little rain but we also need LOTS more.

    Thanks again
    BillyBob
