I think the glaring issue there may be that he has taken the time to post his system specs whereas neither you nor I have done so. :D

OK, Wait. doesn't this thread belong in the SOFTWARE forum?

Maybe XP is OK as well, tho.

SD, Good pts. It's an external HD, I've yet to mount in the enclosure. Since it's a clone it has the same partitions as the system drive.
As for accessibility, that's what I'm after. Something that I can turn to in the event of a crash/infection. I'm thinking I'd hook it up (the external) every few wks to run a backup/copy. How current is relative to me. I'd use it to recover the entire drive, so it depends on changes to the music and photo files. I'm more concerned w/ changes to these partitions than the others, since the other partitions are fairly constant. Space is not a factor. Lastly resource impact is a non issue for me.
As to what I want - that's a good one. I'm certainly more hardware savvy than software, which is why I'm asking. I want it to be hot-swappable, which the enclosure I have is.

It appears the gab has killed this thread. Maybe that could be kept in the General Discussion area rather than hijacking? There are better ways to beef up your post count.
Marking this one resolved for lack of a better idea.
