backdoor trojan

Hi,
I'm having problems with Exploit Byteverify and Backdoor Exploit Byteverify trojans which are infecting java cache.McAfee viruscan detects them but won't clean or delete.I have quarinetined the infected files and then deleted them,but they return after another scan.Java is up to date.Running Windows XP SP2.HJT log follows.Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

WOW, that is quite a wide range of trojan/worms.
Please do the following in the order listed:
open windows explorer and under tools > folder options > view tab > select "show hidden files and folders ". click on ok and close windows explorer.
you should stop realplayer from starting automatically. open real player, at top click on tools > prefrences and then on left of window that opens click the little plus sign next to "automatic settings ". now click on automatic updates. make sure there is NOT a checkmark in the box Next to automatically download. now click on ok.
If you dont need the language /speech services in office, shut this down.
>>> start > all programs > accessories > accessibility > utility manager. click on any running process' you dont use and click on stop. then click ok.
open task manager (ctrl + alt + del) and stop this process.
>>> ALCXMNTR.EXE (click on the task > click on "stop process" and when prompted click on "ok ".
Next, open "control panel ". (in the start menu) open up "internet options ". click on the "advanced tab" at the top right of the window. now under browsing, about 4 or 5 lines down you will see "Disable script debuging for Internet Explorer" and "Disable script debuging for other ". make sure you put a checkmark in those 2 boxes. click on APPLY and OK.
Now, if you dont already have it, please download and install CCleaner at http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp (you will want to run this tool at least once per day. but not yet)
Next, Please open up highjack this and click on "scan system ".(you dont need a log right now.)
Now Please place a checkmark next to the following items if they still exist:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.windowsbbs.com

Now click on "fix selected" and close the program.
Now Please open CCleaner and click on "analyze" and "run cleaner ".
Then, Restart your computer.
Now please create a new restore point. under the start menu > all programs > accessories > system tools click on system restore and create a new restore point. Name it whatever you like. close out of there when it is complete and open Disk Cleanup. (in the same location as system restore) under the more options tab you will see system restore. click on the clean up button. then click OK. when it is finished, run CCleaner again. now shut down your computer, wait 10 - 15 seconds and you can then restart your computer.
Finally, Please Open HiJack This, click on "scan system and save log" and then post your new log.

Your log looks clean. Are you still getting report of the "Byteverify Trojan" you spoke of in your 1st post?
the items listed are legitimate but do not need to be running at startup. If you wish, this will increase your system performance. the programs will still check for updates when you use them and you will be notified when there are any updates available.
Also, 3 of the items are broken links and should be fixed.
1st, if you want to keep RealPlayer, go back into RealPlayer under tools > prefrences. click the plus sign next to automatic services. then click on automatic services. remove any checkmarks in any of the boxes.
then click on auto update and make sure there is no checkmark in the box next to automatically download.
Now click on the plus sign next to connections. then click on Internet/Privacy. remove any checkmarks in any of the boxes.
click on OK and close RealPlayer.
If you do not want to keep RealPlayer forget the above and uninstall it in the "add/remove programs" menu
close all open windows(should not be any tabs in the taskbar at the bottom of your screen)
Now fire up HiJack This and click on "Do a System Scan only ".

Now Please open CCleaner and click on "analyze" and "run cleaner ".
Then, Restart your computer.
before you do anything else, Open up HiJack This and ckick on "Do a System Scan and save a log file "
Now do your McAffee scan where you was getting the "byteverify trojan" message.
Now please post your new log with any comments about how your system is running and the results of your scan from McAffee.

Hi there mrsmith,
followed your instructions to the tee.I received an error after fixing items you recommended(Unexpected error occurred:Error#52 Bad file name or number in sub getlongpath(?.exe).copied to clipboard).I don't know what that means but after rescanning the entries are no longer there.I opted to get rid of realplayer only to discover that AOL uses the library files to download media (discovered this via error from aol).I think it uses a dressed up version of realplayer and that's how I got it.As for the virus' they no longer show up on virusscan.I've seen McAfee pick up the same(or so it says)kind of virus in the past and clean the file with no problem,can't understand why I had so much trouble with it this time.Anyway here is my new HJT log virus free.thank you for the advice!
