Windows Vista Back again-Can't type in the search box

Sorry to have to post this problem again.


From my recent post.
After typing two letters in Start Search box the computer freezes up and when moving my cursor it slides under the menu. I left click a few times and I get a "Not Responding" message.

Also, I get a black desktop. I can return my dreamscene by going to personalize.

Ran three anti virus programs. My computer is not virus infected.

My work-around is to type in the Word program and then do a c&p.

Now I'm really stumped!

I can type cmd or box put can't type file (I get to fi) or microsoft (I get to mi) I can type numbers with no problem.
Again with the black screen after closing the program.

I'm sure Evan will appear to pick up where he and yourself left off on this problem but in the meantime you may wish to check out the below. Neither is a fix but a possible work around until one is found.

Loved a better search utility called Agent Ransack:

BUT I have recently found another which I really like, even more than Agent Ransack. It has less bells and whistles but it is lightning fast:
