    I'm running Vista Ultimate

After typing two letters in Start Search box the computer freezes up and when moving my cursor it slides under the menu. I left click a few times and I get a "Not Responding" message.

Also, I get a black desktop. I can return my dreamscene by going to personalize.

Ran three anti virus programs. My computer is not virus infected.

My work-around is to type in the Word program and then do a c&p.

    Appreciate anyone's help-

Hi cisco, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Try rebuilding your Search Index and then see if your computer freezes up, How to Rebuild your Search Index in Windows Vista.

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

Cisco, I saw your other post about how your problem has re-surfaced.

Do you have Windows Vista Service Pack 2 installed? The reason I asked is because Windows Vista SP2 includes Windows Search 4.0 which may resolve your search issue. Have you also tried searching in Safe Mode and seeing if it freezes up?
