Just got a new ASUS Sabertooth Z170.
When I connect everything and switch the power on it goes into standby but when I press the case power on switch nothing happens.
There is a front panel connector on the board that has a reset connector with Gnd/#/+3. Can anyone tell me if all of these pins are used. The reason I ask this is that my case connector only has a 2 pin plug on it. If all 3 are needed is there a work round I can do. ie short 2 pins etc

If it helps the pins outs are on page 1-32 of the manual.

It sounds like you have mismatched your connectors to the system panel connector. Do you have a 20 pin or 24 pin ATX connection?

I've checked and double checked the connections, and all is good. However, to be sure I tried omitting the front panel connection adapter and connected directly to the board.
The ATX is a 24 pin.

Have you tried the PWRSW leads by reversing them? Neil.

Yes retiredlearner I did. It's not polar. It's just used to short out the PWRSW pins. I did check both the switch and the lead, which were fine. Just to be sure I shorted out the PWR pins manually.
    Still stuck with this problem.

Obviously this isn't the first MB you've installed. Is there any possibility that the board maybe be defective.

    I've done many builds.
I got a replacement, wrongly thinking it could only be the MB but this is the replacement one.
This one has got me baffled.
I know it's not impossible, but TWO faulty boards with the same fault!! Surely not.

I've been trying other help boards and it seems that no one knows the answer to my original question about the connector with Gnd/#/+3. It seem strange to me that ASUS would have a +3v just hanging there, bit I don't want to do anything with it till I get info on it.
Perhaps another type of MB might be a better solution!!

The answer to your question - Can anyone tell me if all of these pins are used.
    The RSTCON# is not used.
Have you been into the BIOS to see if the Defaults settings are in use?
    You said that
To clarify - you connect your Power cable to the PSU and switch on the Power at the wall socket. I assume that the PSU switch is on?
The computer starts and goes into Standby? This suggests to me that something has started the comp without you using the case Start button? (you refer to case power on switch) When you press that case power on switch nothing happens. If you hold this switch in for 5-6 seconds - does the comp shut down?
Am I reading this correctly? Neil.

    Thanks Niel.
I'm surprised ASUS has a +3v pin and it's not being used. At least that's confirmed.

I can't get as far as the BIOS to check it. This MB has a BIOS reset button, which I've tried.
By switch on I mean, with the power cable connected I use the switch on the PSU. This supplies power to the MB, but other than the standby light coming on nothing else happens. It never actually switches on, doesn't get as far as entering POST.
I have tried holding it longer, which would put it into standby, but as it's already in standby it does nothing.

By Standby, you mean the motherboard LED's show when the PSU is switched on? The same happens for my Asus m/b.
From the Manual. Have you connected the ATX motherboard power connector fully?? If the board is not getting power, it won't go through POST,
    All RAM seated fully? Neil.

Exactly Niel. MB standby light comes on.
RAM defiantly seated ok. Tried one then both.
As it never reaches POST I don't get the chance to do any other action.

Just tested my Asus board. I disconnected the 8 pin EATX 12V connector to the board (adjacent to the CPU) and switched power on at the PSU and the Standby Power LED lit up. I pushed the Start button on the front of the case and the case fans started but there was no Monitor or board fans (CPU) or GPU) working. I had to switch off the PSU to stop as the front panel button did nothing. I would suggest that possibly the board 8 pin connector may not be making a good connection or worse still is faulty. Neil.

    Slight problem there.
I bought a new 1000 watt PSU and it's a replacement board, so both are new.
The setup you describe is very similar but my case fans don't start.
I've decided to send this one back also.
It's against the odds, but I want to make sure this one isn't also faulty. Not impossible.

I spoke to the supplier about the 1st board and they agreed it had a fault.

I'll report back when I receive the replacement.

Two faulty boards - against all odds. The info in your Manual is very similar to mine in certain places. Layout on the board likewise. That is why I thought a test on mine should be indicative of your one. Neil.

After faulty board #2 I would have told them to keep it! And change to another...
