Was using Avast but just changed to Avira to give it a try. Good first impressions.

I have been using AVG 7.5 Pro on a two year contract which expires at the end of January 2009. I tried AVG 8 for a month but didn't care for it so I will not being renewing with them.

I am looking at both Avira and Avast. I will need to pick a new AV before AVG ends support of 7.5 at the end of December 2008.

    Antivirus

If you care to look at an AntiVirus Test Report produced and published in PC Answers, dated May 2007. it does a comparison on Seven (7) individual packages. Avast was the best free one with Kapersky being the winner.

I hope that this might help you and I can understand your dilemma.:)

I too have removed AVG ~ a product I've used and recommended for years. It seems that the crew at AVG have stopped being responsive to clients of paid for versions and with AVG not settling well with Vista I was always having to fight it to be able to get some actual work done from this laptop.

I am now running Threatfire along side PCTools ( Had to many issues with ZoneAlarm ~ also a paid for version ) and still see some latency in being able to use my system upon boot up ( especially if there is no internet connection available ) but have overcome that by simply firing them up after my system has initialized and then only if there is a internet connection available.

I'm hoping these two settle OK because I'm prepared to pay for the extra functionality of paid for versions.

I was running AVG and Spybot Search and Destroy until a few weeks ago when a virus got past AVG and disabled Spybot. I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, which was the only thing that could get rid of the virus. I reformatted my PC and now run both Spybot (because I like it's Tea Timer) and Malwarebytes.

I think, Avira should be added to the list. It's very popular AV program.
I use Avira, and Avast on different OSes.

I'll have to agree with you here. Although I have never used Norton myself.

I switched to Avast! and have been happy with it so far.

I am using Kaspersky Internet Security, Concerning with my experience with Kaspersky for the last 6 months, I am sure that any virus or other malwares can't enter into our system if Kaspesky is our security. I am **** sure that this is the best security for our system comparing with all other antivirus and internet security softwares. So use it and experiance your system free from all threats.

Excuse my newbiness, sniper9228, because I don't know your sense of humour. I assume you are joking since the only XP Antivirus 2008 I know is a virus in itself.

I've been using CA for 6 years now on up to 6 machines. While I have always been happy with the product I have occasionally had technical support issues.
Their technical support has got so bad over the years (don't understand English) that this will certainly be my last year.

Looking for something else next year, except for 3 machines that won't wait that long even though CA has charged my credit card for unsupplied product keys. CA tech explained that product quantity actually means number of years (not seats). I check the license on the machines that are working and it only says one year. Now they say "oh well your 60 day refund window has passed "!

    In Praise of McAfee

I have used McAfee for as long as I can remember. It comes with my broadband service and even if it didn't I would not change from it. Never had anything get past it, even with a teenager using the pc's. Issues with Symantec products and viruses, etc. Great Security Center one stop fix for most home pc users.
