    Hi everyone,
I would really appreciate some help with an issue I'm having with my XP computer. I was running out of disk space and so recently removed some programs (only those listed as out of use for over a year) - this must have been a bad idea.. after the first restart, everything was fine, but upon restarting again, all icons were enlarged, and all fonts and other onscreen content were horizontally elongated. At first, changing the Desktop resolution allowed the icons to return to a normal size, and I then restarted. I then got a 'Found New Hardware' message although only my mouse was connected by USB, and an invitation to install 'Video Controller (VGA Compatible)' but since I had no software for this (nor do I know what it is) I couldn't do anything. Now, the icons are enlarged again but changing the resolution is not helping; everything is still horizontally elongated. I wish I hadn't removed the programs, but I don't know which removal has caused this issue anyway. Can anyone please help me?

We encourage all members to complete their System Specifications which help us to help you :)

It sounds like you have lost your graphics drivers - The Video controller software should be on your drive - if you proceed through the Wizard - check the first option Install automatically - what happens?

If that fails go to the web site of your computer manufacturer if the graphics are onboard or the web site of the graphics card manufacturer and download the drivers and install.

If you don't know the detail of the graphics download SIW and go to Hardware > Devices > Display Adaptors.

Post the detail if you like & we can (hopefully) point you to the download URL

Also post the make & model number of your computer if OEM (Dell, Gateway, HP .... )

Hi Pete, thanks for your reply. I downloaded SIW and I can see 'Hardware -> Devices' but no option for 'Display Adaptors'. My computer is a Toshiba Satellite Pro M40 laptop. Downloading a new driver would be good, but I'm unsure of what to search for - could you help further? Many thanks.

Hi again Pete - fixed! I found a Display Driver for my laptop and downloaded that. A simple solution I guess, but I didn't think of it until your post - thanks!
