I have been getting this error when booting up my PC each time. It goes to a black screen showing Devices loading and then this error message shows on the last line. I can hit F1 to continue which I have been doing and that lets me use the PC as normal.

Co-incidently I have been getting messages to back up my hard drive, which I have done.

Is the hard drive about to crash or is it a problem I can resolve without send the PC back to the manufacturer?

It does look like your HD is failing.

Try testing it with seatools (assuming the system is the one listed in your specs).

Use the dos version and create a bootable CD, let us know the results.

    From Seagates site...

Doesn't look too good, backup what you can now and get the drive replaced.

Can you tell me what the "Smart Tripped" means?

SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) is used to detect faults in hard drives before they completely fail.

Your HD has basically reported that it is about to die.

From your specs, tell Acer about the problem first. Seagate (apparently) will replace the HDD, but it will be completely blank. Should Acer be covering this problem and supply you with a replacement (working) HDD?

BTW, seems like good detective work wildfire
