Running Win7 and going to get a SSD

Going to instill Win7 on SSD and question is
How will will my backup that have the all my pictures and music
be effected ? I have 6 sata ports and the last 2 will only run Native IDE
I have 2 externat ports that I will use for Mybackup and Hotswap, and SSD for Win7. My other drives are just data only

Is AHCI needed on the Drive that runs Win7 only ?

    Thanks

If you enable AHCI in BIOS before installing Win 7, there won't be any problem as Win 7 would automatically detect & load the AHCI driver.

Why do i need AHCI with a SSD Drive

Don't worry about the Blue Ray Drive. AHCI or no AHCI is NOT going to make much difference for it.

AHCI will be used on all of your SATA and e-SATA drives.

If you're going to install an Intel SSD, don't use their AHCI driver ... there's an apparent bug in the Intel SSD Toolbox that won't permit certain functions of the Toolbox to work with the Intel AHCI driver installed. Instead, let the system install the built-in MS AHCI driver, and all features of the SSD Toolbox will work as they should..
