I posted in another thread about SSD HD. I read an article linked by Arie.
One of the things it said was; "the only thing you should check first is to make sure your system's BIOS is set to run SATA in AHCI mode (if it is user-selectable)."

In my BISO, it has, "OnChip SATA Controller. "

    OnChip SATA Type (SATA2 0-SATA2 3 connectors)

Configures the operating mode of the SATA2 0-SATA2 3 connectors.
Native IDE Allows the SATA controller to operate in Native IDE mode (default)
Enable Native IDE mode if you wish to install operating systems that support Native mode.

RAID Enables RAID for the SATA controller.

AHCI Configures the SATA controllers to AHCI mode. Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) is an interface specification that allows the storage driver to enable advanced Serial ATA features such as Native Command Queuing and hot plug.

I get what it's saying, but can anyone put this into other words to describe more details what it's doing when I switch this?

    How will this be better?

    Thank you,
    Chris.

I switched it in the BIOS. It would not boot up. It said that Windows was damaged. I switched it back to IDE and it booted up.
Once you go in and change that setting, it opens more.
It's, "OnChip SATA Port as ESP. "

    Has "Port0 as ESP/Port1 as ESP/Port2 as ESP/Port3 as ESP. "

Do I need to do anything in there?

Thank you for the link. It is a very good, easy to understand. I reread the article by Arie and I see I need to do more to get it to boot with an OS already installed in IDE.
Not sure if I need to do SATA Port as ESP.

    Chris.

What are you trying to do? I recently installed an SSD and used http://www.disk-partition.com/free-partition-manager.htmlto 'clone' old HDD and transfer to new SSD.
I had the W8.1 HDD and the new SSD as the only drives connected and it went sweetly. I did not have to make any changes in the BIOS.
Have a look at my System Details - all new up to date components and the SSD is working OK and fast. Neil.

If you have Windows installed while your BIOS wasn't set to use AHCI mode, your system won't boot up after you change it, as I explained in my article
