    Pete,

I don't remember if you got a new mobo or just upgraded your CPU. I'm running an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium and the Cool n Quiet driver (ver 1.2.2.2) for WinXP is still available on the ASUS website. It's listed under the 'Utilities' tab. It was kind of easy to miss. It's dated last Nov 14, so it hasn't been updated recently.

    B

    Hi, Bill. :)

jeffp1956 had a problem with his system abruptly shutting down. When he posted his CPU temperature (65°C via Everest), we suspected his CPU may have been getting too hot when he was gaming.

So far, we determined the problem was apparently a dusty heatsink and cooling fan that were allowing his CPU temps to get too high. So far, the issue has been resolved. (His CPU temp is now 46 °C at idle after cleaning and addition of another case fan.) We're waiting to hear from Jeff after he has let his system run for awhile with some heavy gaming and report back.

Since the issue has been resolved (as far as we know), the thread has drifted off topic a bit. :)

Since I am responsible for starting the "drift ", I'm sorry about any confusion I have caused.

EDIT: BTW, I noticed your sig:

WELCOME to Windows BBS! :) I am certainly glad to have you around these forums. Your credentials (and your apparent understanding of BSOD dump analysis) lead me to believe you know more about BSOD dumps than most (all?) of the people here lately.

Thank you for your explanation of a BSOD dump in another thread. I was tempted to ask you for more details about your explanation in that thread but, as I was typing my message yesterday afternoon, I decided to wait until that person's BSOD issue is resolved before I ask. The message is saved on my desktop waiting for the opportunity. :)

If you would prefer I start another new thread topic such as "Learning more about BSODs ", I'll gladly do so.
