56K Modem problems.

    From what I have read and heard you would be far better off going with and External Modem. Even if going to XP.

    I am given to understand that even XP prefers External Modems.

    They are far more reliable than an Internal anyway.

    They are also a FULL modem and not half of one the way most Internals are.

    I agree with BillyBob on using a full modem. Even tho I finally found an internal Full modem that would work I picked up an external modem and use that instead. It makes it easier when switching to my Linux OS. They're not cheap priced like winmodems but they are worth the expense. And they are pretty much a "default" connection in Win95B on up. If you do go that route make sure you have the Serial cable for it too (usually included in the box, but check it).

    "Default connection" meaning I have never had to use the floppy that comes with it; including setting one up on my daughter's o-o-old Packard Bell.

    Another very good point. I had an External and had no problems with it when I had 3 OS on here.

    That one reason alone makes it well worth the initial expense. Or at least it did to me.
