It requires a second line/number, installation charges whatever your telephone company charges and obviously monthly line rental (and whatever length contract).

If you go this route be sure to mention clearly that you need an additional ADSL line to the premises or they may just hook up with the current master which will give you an adequate voice line but leave you stumped for ADSL.

Seriously, if your flatmate's being that pigheaded about things I'd consider moving.

hi lokman120, wildfire probably forgot to mention your best option - MOVE TO ANOTHER FLAT - and make sure you get the MASTER phone socket or that there are no other Routers in use.

Incidentally, my Router is NOT on the MASTER socket and has been working this way for 7 years. Telecom say not to have more than 5 jacks in use and yet at one time for at least 3 years, I had 7 jacks connected but not all were ever in use at once.

Example: I could be on the internet and the phone would ring and my wife would answer in another room - if the call was for me - she would call out for me to answer the phone and I would then pick up and speak from my computer room. Maximum 3 jacks in use at one time - no problems.

Currently I have 5 comps connected to the Router - 2 through an Ethernet Switch - all by cable.

Just thought I would give an insight as to what options you can take, but as rsinfo and wildfire have stated only one Router per House phone line. Cheers Neil.:D

What I use has 5 RJ45 sockets and the box is powered from the wall socket. It takes your line from the Router in one socket and enables 4 PC's to be connected to it.

My Thomson Router (ADSL2) has the 1 phone socket (input) and 4 outlets, so to enable more than 4 comps to be connected, I need the extra little box.

I see wildfire has also suggested moving flats. As he suggested re costs of extra lines - be careful - make sure there are no burglar alarm circuits involved in the buildings as very definitely separate lines and costs will be expensive. Neil.
