The dbx files for OE are hidden files.... The Deleted Items.dbx is known to get corrupted. If and when you find it, delete it. It'll get recreated.

Which Symantec product are you trying to unistall?
What is the exact path where you placed the file?
I've been using Outlook for years and have never seen it automatically make mail as unwanted...The only ones it does mark are the ones I told it...

When you're away, you're using a different ISP. Most ISP's won't allow you to send another ISP's mail...You'll need to go to a web based mail...

The folders aren't missing, you just don't have Admin rights to the folders.
I was going by this post where you said the XP machine didn't receive the mail.
Your 98 pc is probably causing the problem. In Outlook Express on the Win98 machine click on Tools->Accounts
Should try a cleaning kit on the drive. Six years worth of dust and crud could be the culprit.
On the Win98 pc, look through the email account settings for the option called "Leave Mail on Server" and make sure its turned on.
Are you logged in as an administrator?
