Try turning off the screen saver and see what happens... Any chance the pc is rebooting?
Beta's can be fun.....Most will tell you to only install on a machine you can afford to reformat all the time.
Have you played around with the "zoom" setting in the lower right hand corner oy the IE window?

Did you install all the updates for Office?
If you send a mail without an attachment does it arrive? If so, one of the ISP's (yours or theirs) is blocking the mail because of the attachment....
