When you save the Word 2007 doc do a "save as" and change it to an older version like Word 2003. You can also get a free conversion utility...

When you say restore - do you mean "Import? " Try entering the password to the email account on the older machine when prompted for a password.
What happens when you go to Yahoo's site? Do the mails show up there?
Should consider looking on AVG's web site/support section....And look in AVG's security section and make sure VPN is enabled/not blocked.
