Could try contacting Acer for a replacement cd. Could borrow an OEM of Home or Pro from someone. Purchase a new cd/keycode.

Going to 64 bit require a clean install...Pretty much the Only current reason to go to 64bit is if you need to run 4 or more gigs of ram.

You should try loading the cd's for both apps and see if Office for example will grab the files it thinks it needs.
Are you sure that all seem to come with XP? You can google-> Windows Produce Lifecycle to find info...
Is there some new pdf format that requires version 9? What happens/doesn't happen when you try to use it? Have you considered uninstalling 9?...
Look in the BIOS for a setting to change SATA to IDE Mode.
