You can only have four basic/standard partitions on a drive.
Device Manager-> USB -> Power Management tab Make sure the USB ports aren't going to sleep;)
IF you Google-> disable usb ports you'll find tons of information....one of which is to go into device manager->Usb Controller section-> Right...

Sounds like you're talking about a BIOS password... If so, go into the BIOS and disable the password requirement.
Creating a new template will probably fix future workbooks/sheets. And re-saving old ones with the Automatic switch turned on would probably fix...
In Excel 2010-> File->Options->Formula is where you'll find the global option Workbook Calculations When set, it would fix any new spreadsheets.
