What's the extension of files you are trying to open in LibreOffice. ".txt" ?

These are not permanent and as you use the browser they are replaced by the sites that you use often. You don't have to change a thing.
I would also go with hard disk drive. Replacing it with SSD should make the computer much faster & responsive.
Yes it does save both time & space. Reading a hard disk is typically faster than writing the data - even on an internal hard disk.
