This is usually the best way to do it.
You shouldn't have to reboot to put the 2nd disk in. It should tell you when to do it. It may reboot on its own before it asks for the next disk.
Enable it, reboot, Disable it, reboot, then Enable it and see if it holds.

Check for updates for your Display Driver. I have an Asus and haven't had that problem. It has the drivers that were installed on it from day one....
If you are running SP2 on XP, you are way behind and should update to SP3 for safety sake.
