You can have many browsers installed on your pc...Use em all and decide which works best for you;)
You should be able to zap the partition via Disk Management and then recreate it and format it.

I can drag mine anywhere I want and the Sort by Name moves em all back.. You can "beat" the system by renaming them like: 1_Favorite Name...

Welcome to WindowsBBS;) I think you mean the machine doesn't have a CD Rom Drive? You would have to take the Hard Drive out of the machine...
Try the Auto Detct Settings in the same screen...After saving..close and reopen the browser.
IE Tools-> Options->Connection tab->LAN Settings button....Make sure nothing is checked inside there.
Not sure what you mean by status bar...but alll the various toolbars can be dragged to different locations.. Is you Word Window in FULL View?
