Which version of Outlook are you using and have you applied all of the service packs and updates?
Are you getting dupes on one machine or are you talking about getting the same mail on another machine?
Double click on the Error Icon in the lower right hand corner. Post or Google the error messages.
Look for the flash drive in Device Manager and make sure the Power Management is disabled.

Did you install the mobo chipset/video card and LAN drivers after you installed XP?
I'm thinking that one or more reminder might be corrupt. Clearing out ALL reminders might maybe help....Its your call if you want to try the...
Does she have a classmate she can ask to see if they have the same problem? Does the web site support section say anything about it?
Do you have just a few reminders or hundreds of reminders?
Wondering if simply rebooting the pc might help? It wouldn't hurt ->In Outlook you can click on HELP->Detect and Repair
What happens when you try to boot off the external dvd drive?

As I recall - if you copy the files FROM the My Doc folder TO a folder with a different name on your drive - you won't have the problem.
Odds are you don't need VPN capibilities. But it won't hurt anything if you have it;)
