    OO = Open Office :) Check that .doc is set to open with Open Office. I'm inclined to think this is a Thunderbird issue rather than Win 7.

    If it's bugging you try in Windows Explorer Tools > Folder Options > View (or Control Panel > Folder Options) and ensure that 'Hide empty drives'...
