A common issue with lappys is that the ac plug attached to the mobo gets broken. Try wiggling it to see if the connection changes.
And hopefully the trojans are programed to look for common password manager applications;)
Sounds like something did fry... You'll have to replace items till you find the culprit. The power supply is a likely culprit and the easiest...
Browsers store passwords in cookies that normaly can't be read by humans. The following might come in handy....
