Why not simply click on the time in the Taskbar - available regardless of which program is open ......
In Outlook 2007 there is an option to empty the Deleted Items (Trash) folder on exiting Outlook - may be a similar option in 2013.

Thanks for that - MS have still not got it right! As far as I could see there is no shutdown, etc. button as in Win 7 IMO this is a serous...
You can either back up the entire registry or, more simply, export the entries that you intend to change before changing. Thereby you have a way...
