Just as an off shot... If you installed the DVDRW on a line that the CDROM was already on I would guess that the origional CD was set to master....

Mount the drive as a slave and format. Or just mount the drive if it's going to end up the main drive as master, boot with a win 98 startup...

Someone else will have to guide you on disableing the XP burning as I don't run XP. I just know that it can cause conflicts with third party...

First, if your running XP and also a third party software package, such as Nero, disable the XP burner. Also, as a note, XP will not burn DVDs....
Mattman, If, in a case of a bios limit, would partitioning a 200gig drive as say 2 100gig partitions, get around the limit as it would on win...
Going by it only happening if off for more than 5 minutes I'm thinking it may be the CMOS battery.
I thought that XP didn't have the 128gig limit??

On the partitioning just remember that once you partition your not done. You need to go back and format each partition.
