You could turn off support for Hibernation.
You could install PowerToys for XP which allows you to customize.
Install PowerToys for XP. It has a facility to remove items left behind in the Add/Remove list.
According to Microsoft, it is not possible to install Win 98 after installing Windows XP (or Win 2000). W98 has to be on the boot partition.
