Just a update on the few probs we were having ......we never got to the problem so we formated and installed windows xp
Thanks for that ...............that`s much easier to follow , will give it a try and report back later.
we can get into safe mode ok ........all we need to do now is find the problem, and where to start ,and what to look for.

The system is in fact Windows 98SE I done all that ,and it is still loading to Windows 98 logo screen..its as if there has been a time limit...
My friends PC finaly booted up ......after 25 min ....it`s taking on avarage 20-25 min to boot to sign in screen. Any sugestions !

I was having the exact same problem ,untill I was told that it was my new key board doing the restarts,for some reason I went from ps2 to usb key...
I think I have now got it sorted ...................I took power supply out of my PC and put it in my daughters ................. "hey presto"...
I downloaded ram tester to floopy disc, inserted disc and re booted system ..........it booted up ok ...........started to do it`s job by scanning...
I managed to get to the log on screen,..... then it just re booted from scratch again . I have tried to get it to boot from windows installation...
it will not go past "safe Mode" screen .........................i`m getting a task bar of sorts saying system will re boot in 30 seconds...
IT BOOTS UP TO A BLACK SCREEN .......................THEN IT GOES TO ANOTHER SCREEEN SAYING "TO BOOT TO LAST KNOWN CONFIGURATION THAT WORKED...
My daughter is having probs with her desktop PC ..................she is useing win XP pro ...............and her PC keeps re booting all the time...
