BTW, nice looking daughter. I have a Jennifer too. She's in graduate school (for environmental policy, whatever that is).
The thing is, scandisk never told me the problems were invalid dates. As I posted way early in this thread, the messages were all the same...
PROBLEM SOLVED!!! Turns out the incorrect date was the problem all along. I just ran scandskw.exe and it found no errors at all. Thanks to...

This was also suggested (and tried) earlier in this thread. It does not work - the computer boots normally.
As I noted early on in this thread, holding down the Ctrl key has no effect - the pc boots normally (except the programs in my Start folder don't...

Thanks for the suggestions. I may yet try them! I don't use IE at all, or Windows defrag, so some of the folders suggested to delete I don't...
Running Win 98 (first edition). Today when I ran scandisk, I got many (more than 3 dozen) alerts that some file or folder, or the information...
Right click on the filename and select Properties. Uncheck the box named Read Only.
Well, there must be a way. I just tried it, and I don't get that annoying message - the selected text is just deleted. I'll root around some and...
