i know this is mixing new with old... but can anyone tell me how to get them to recognize each other?? right now my comptuer is just using "microsoft default driver "....

It is plugged right into the motherboard, as i kept having problems with the "system thread exception not handled" error when i was trying to use it regularly. deleting the driver and starting over only fixed the problem until we tried installing the driver again... my brother was at it for a good couple hours... ultimately took it out as i dont do any hardcore gaming and wont *need* it to run what i want.

my monitor needs 1440x900 but the regular microsoft driver wont display this... and i get even get windows/windows update to recognize it at all...

went onto acers site looking for drivers... found the xp one and tried it for kicks, but it doesnt seem to do anything...

windows isnt showing me that theres any more updates available... so, i think so?

that site might do what i want, but its not free.... the program they make you download isnt free to actually run to get the drivers needed.

also running into problems getting my logitech mx700 mouse to fully work, setpoint installs but doesnt actually let me change mouse button configurations (aside from the basic 2 on top)

may have to contact both companies separately... so annoying.

If Windows doesn't recognise a hardware component & the inbuilt driver works for it, Windows Update is going to check only for inbuilt driver update. You are NOT going to get the correct driver for your hardware.

Hi Mel. I need to know the make and model of your computer so I can help you download the proper video driver for your system.

Do you need assistance with finding this information?

Yes, this is still an issue for me. Problem is, its a custom built computer so im unable to tell you something like "its a dell X model" type thing.

    Which info would you need?

the video card itself did crash out on me not long ago, was causing permanent errors persistent through formatting. so, i took it out and have been just attached directly to the motherboard for graphics.

Should i look into getting a new video card, in order for things to display properly? or would the motherboard graphics be enough?

Please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Once you have entered your system specs in your profile let me know and then I can figure out video driver your computer needs.

To answer your question, a dedicated video card will give your computer better video performance but it depends on how powerful your power supply is. In order to find out what your max output in watts for your power supply is, you will need to open up the computer and look for the information printed on the power supply unit which will tell you how much power it can draw from the wall.
