Something very strange hit my computer today. I have done virus scans with 3 different programs and nothing shows. What happened is that I am not able to access the printers and devices in the Control Panel. (In addition, several programs, including Thunderbird and an imaging program, Todo Backup by Easeus, were both trashed and would not work.) When I try to access the printers in the control panel, the progress green line goes to the end and stays there forever. )I have no proof of a connection, but all of this started after a "critical update" by Windows.

This is an old problem going back 5 years or more, according to what I found on the Internet, but none of the suggestions made then seem to work. I have tried sfc /scannow, but that did not do anything. I have done an integrity check of the drive. I have not been able to do a system restore on this computer, whether I tried in Safe Mode or regular mode and even when I stop my virus programs, which System Restore does not seem to like. There is always an error message that doesn't help. Someday I hope someone will tell me how to use System Restore, since it is a valuable tool. But right now what I need is help on accessing the printer control panel.

Many thanks for any help you can give.

Hi davidcal. Lets try this. Click Start< and type services.msc in the Start Search box and hit enter. When the services window opens scroll down and make sure the Bluetooth Support Service is set to Automatic and is Started and check the Print Spooler Service and make sure that service is set to Automatic and is Started as well.

Then open the Devices and Printers folder and it should open right up.
