My pc starting making sharp, high pitched beeping sounds yesterday, at first a single beep, now frequent double beeps. I understand there could be a problem, but don't know how to diagnose and fix it.

You should be able to identify the beep message by Googling for BIOS beep codes for your Bios.

As you haven't filled in your System Details I can't point you to the relevant site, but if you download Speccy you will find Bios details under Motherboard - double click in Motherboard on the main page (screenshot)

Click on the link System Details in PeteC's post and follow the instructions to permanently add your system details to your profile. Could you please post the Dell Service Tag. This way we can find what model and version number Dell machine you are using.

Restart you computer. At the Dell Screen press F12. Scroll down and highlight Diagnostics press Enter. Make sure you note any error codes. Beeo Codes and PSA Diagnostic Chart

Ran the Dell diagnostics tests and no problems found. No more beeping; hope that means all is well. Will let you know.
