Hi i have this notebook running xp and it says its connected to my wireless connection but ie says its not connected? I ran the set up wizard with no success. I run the diagnostic and it say maybe the firewall is not set right so I turned it off and get the same message: windows cannot connect to the internet using http, https, or ftp this probably caused by firewall settings on this computer. check the firewall settings for the http port 80 https port 443 and ftp port 21
I found those in the firewall settings but not sure how to set them. any help would be appreciated.

Hi, what i need to know is why ie wont load any web pages? it gives me that message i posted about the http stuff, so under the advance settings in firewall i see 9 boxes i can check and i see the http, https and ftp, when i check them they all three show name or IP address for example 192.168.0.12 of the computer hosting this service on your network and in the place to put that number is acer-6e40e97492. is that what should be there or my IP address or what??? and is this why i cant get online with IE??? I'll download firefox if I could get online with it.

Let's determine if this is a network problem or an IE problem.

    1. Go to Start button > Programs > Accessories > Command prompt.
    2. type this command: ping www.yahoo.com
    3. press the Enter key.

If you see 4 responses from yahoo then the network is OK. If get no responses the network is misconfigured of there's a network hardware problem.

Try resetting IE back to defaults, close it, and then try getting to http://www.yahoo.com with it once again.

(I'm afraid I don't remember the specific step-by-step instructions to reset IE in Windows XP. If you need them, you might try Google).

    Your network is working.
Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > general tab > Reset button.
Next, Connections tab > LAN settings button > uncheck Automatically detect settings.

In IE File Menu verify that Work Offline is not checked. If checked, uncheck it.

If still have problems connecting I suggest posting in the Malware forum.

ok both those were ok, but what about the message the diagnoses showed about checking the ports on http https and fts, it has the correct ports listed but they are grayed out and the ip doesnt match the example of what it should be? and under lan settings no ip address is listed. Now when i open ie, it does go to the web page it looks like but the message operation aborted pops up?

I'm with TonyT, sounds like your computer may be infected with some type of malware, (malicious software). Recommend starting with these instructions and then posting the requested log(s) in our Malware and Virus Removal forum.

After your computer has been given a clean bill of health by one of our malware experts, if you are still having the same issue then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help solve the problem.
