I would say that the computer is infected - head over to the Malware & Virus Removal forum and ....

Tried to run DDS but got message: "DDS is not meant to run in compatability mode. Then program shall now exit.
Re the disable any script blocking: The proceedure I found stated: Make sure active scripting is set to enable---is that correct? And is "script active X controls" what is meant by active scripting?

When you get this fixed, UNINSTALL JAVA. It is not needed 99.99% of the time anymore. It stays full of vulnerabilities.

I installed it, but was very unsure about it, can't remember what program had asked for it, can you tell me, when and for what instances Java would be required. If it does not apply to my regular computing then I will uninstall it, I have heard to many negatives about it.
I would be fairly sure that rwirsig's comp has a Virus and or Malware.
If he hasn't got any very important stuff on it, I would probably wipe it clean and re-install.

I have uninstalled it over a year ago on all my PC's and had friends uninstall it also. Haven't had it ask for it since. If it did, I would certainly go to Sun's page to install it and not trust what the page sent me to.
My grandkids use all my PC's all the time and if something asked for it, they know better then to install or do something without asking me.

I also uninstalled it on my systems about a year ago and have not missed Java either.

But my grandson plays Minecraft and that requires Java. So it is installed on a computer used for guests.

On the plus side, Microsoft will be releasing an update to IE11 in September called Out-of-Date ActiveX Control Blocking - of which Java is, by leaps and bounds, the worse offender.

But you need to follow Pete's suggestion and post your finding in that forum, not back here. Come back here when cleared there.
