I'm running XP, and when I try to install the updates. They fail every time. It goes through the motion, but fail to install. I noticed I don't have a "service" for windows update. Does that matter?

Hi rgn. Have you tried installing each Windows Update manually to see if they install?

If you open the Services window do you see the Automatic Updates service listed?

Do you get an error message when the updates don't install?

I haven't tried to install separate. How would I do that? (rookie)

    Doesn't show on services

No error message, just that it was installed. But, the alert shows that I have 12 updates to install.

You can visit the Microsoft Download Center and search for any individual update that you want to download and deploy manually.

Do the Automatic Updates, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) services show up in the Services window?

I tried downloading one at a time. It downloaded, but wouldn't install. Now I have 13 updates.
I get a successful install, but the yellow shield still says I have updates (13).
I checked on my past updates and it says they were installed.
So, which way is it? Install or not?
I used Explorer browser, didn't seem to make a difference. It ran through it's paces, about 30 minutes. Then showed "0" installed.
Is my AVG stopping the install? Should I disable the AV?

I don't have the yellow shield showing I need to update my windows. Is it because MS has ended their support. I did disable my AV and uploaded my updates. It seemed to work. I'll check it again later today. I need to check my update list for windows.
It is on the control panel list.
