James: It's the pure cinnamon I get it from Restaurant Depot. I wasn't diagnosed but my two half brothers and stepfather were. One half brother passed in 2004(Complications brought on by diabetes). The other half brother went blind. He didn't bother to heed the doctors warnings.

We had 14" of snow now having a few days of frigid temps. With wind chill -20 -30 degrees. I remember a few years back when they predicted a light dusting of snow and by the timed the light dusting finished nothing moved for three days. Some light dusting. I like the names they give the snow storms. A few weeks back that snow storm was named Hercules. This one was named Janus.

The present water temperature of Lake Ontario is 34F. There is still a lot of open water. With this Arctic cold front the lake should freeze over more than it has in a couple of decades. I can't complain too much about the amount of snow we are receiving seeing as it is that light fluffy stuff. It is far better than getting 3 to 4 feet of wet heavy snow overnight.

We've been lucky for the past few years a lot of winter storms either passed to the north or to the south of us..

I put some Marvel Mystery Oil in my gas of late. I'm not sure if it dissolves water in the tank though.

    Thanks, I'll look into it.

It amazes me how some folks dismiss the dangers of elevated blood glucose. My mother-in-law lost her toes, but things did not heal, so they took off part of her feet and left the area open to heal from the inside out, but that didn't work either.

The doctors told her that she would have to lose her legs. The surgeon removed the left leg above the knee, but my mother-in-law died about three days later (complications from congestive heart failure - brought on by diabetes).

A year later, my older brother lost part of his foot from diabetes complications (he let his blood sugar go as high as 400 at times). He burned his foot in front of a space heater, but he didn't feel it because of chronic neuropathy.

I try hard try keep my after-meal numbers below 140. A lot of diabetics (pre-diabetics included) have good fasting numbers, but their after-meal numbers can spike as high as 200 or more. It's those spikes (over time) that can cause trouble. I think the medical community is beginning to take notice of this issue and are advising patients accordingly. I would prefer to have an A1C in the 4 percent range, but 5.0 to 5.2 isn't bad.

How long have they been naming winter storms? The thought of it invokes memories of bad hurricanes.

My blood is usually 78-82 A1C 4.8. Even though I wasn't diagnosed I check it just in case, cause you never know. My stepfather lost his toes, then a foot, and finally his leg. He passed 11 months after my mother passed. The doctors couldn't figure out why. One dr. said maybe from a broken heart because he had all the signs of just giving up taking care of himself.

Here in the panhandle of Florida, was out yesterday in shorts and a t-shirt. 30 degrees last night and now it is 66 and a little rain. Schools around here have been canceled for tomorrow and maybe Wed. Sleet and snow predicted. Have had snow here in about 4 years. Sleeted last Friday but nothing bad.

James: They haven't been naming them for long. I usually don't watch the weather channel. I can tell went it's going to rain or snow when my neck, shoulder, and knees start hurting. Usually 24 to 48hrs in advance.

Got slammed this afternoon going to Oswego for dialysis. Absolute white out conditions. Couldn't drive over 10 M.P.H. Vehicles in the ditch all of the way, mostly 4 wheel drives. The lake effect went from northern Oswego County through northern Oneida county. I wouldn't trade living here for any other place in the world.

    Well, call me a liar.

Aiken is due to get three to six inches of snow in the next few hours. On the contrary, my area will get about half that amount. The Ft. Bragg area, near Fayetteville, is supposed to get anywhere from 8 to 12 inches of the stuff.

It's rotten, I know, but I have to tell you about our day (similar to the last two weeks) in the very northwest tip of the USA (Anacortes WA). Temperatures have been about 34 F overnight and daytrime high around 48. Clear blue skies with hints of alto-cirrus and airplane contrails.

It's supposed to be wet and miserable, but we haven't seen rain for two weeks. We'd actually welcome a day of rain, as the garden is looking a bit sad. You have to bear in mind that a full day of rain here is maybe 0.25 ".

When we lived in tidewater Virginia, the summer thunderstorms could drop 3" in 45 minutes and it would all be converted to humidity as soon as the sun came out. Sure glad we were able to move back to Washington!

    Funny you mention that.

I just saw a weather article lamenting about the lack of rain in California and other nearby western states.

That's about as bad as it gets here in the south. Sometimes, I'd rather have the cold thunderstorm breeze than the storm itself. It's worse in the flat lands (humidity-wise) than it is in the piedmont regions after a storm.

The two worst places I've ever visited in the summertime was Columbia, SC, and Memphis, TN. (good places to have a heat stroke)

It tapered off, here, about six hours ago. I think we got about two inches total.

Now comes the bitter cold for a few days, but it will be in the 60s this weekend. :)

I know this is an older thread, but here in Illinois we got 6" last night on the 3" we already had, it has stopped for now. It is supposed to snow again foe Wed. with 25mph + winds, sounds like time to stay inside. Bookmark this link, and you can type in any town (in the USA) where it says Pontiac Il, and click on go, to see the weather around the country. I live where the little blue stick pin is NE of Peoria Il.

It felt like it was close to 70 today. (no jacket needed :))

In spite of the brutal cold air we have encountered the past few weeks, I actually saw buttercups sprouting out of the ground yesterday. They must have been at least two to three inches high.

Mr Chuck, Spring can't be too far behind, but I hope the snow pack isn't so deep that it causes major flooding.
