In August I was having a problem logging into a Yahoo account I had for 10+ years, was locked out, and not getting much help from Yahoo with a new password. I found online an independent tech provider ( "Email Customer Service "..I'll just use acronym ECS). The tech got me back in and reset my password. I suspected possibly my computer was compromised or hacked. Tech had me go to Run and ran DOS command to check if other connections. This is what i got:

    Active Connections

Proto Local Address Foreign Address State
    TCP USER-58826C0986:1048 a23-12-32-60.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.co
    m:https CLOSE_WAIT……
    TCP USER-58826C0986:1220 ads.efax.com:https CLOSE_WAIT…….
    TCP USER-58826C0986:1347 216.52.233.134:https ESTABLISHED…..
    TCP USER-58826C0986:1513
    TCP USER-58826C0986:1517 91.190.217.40:https ESTABLISHED…..

I can't remember which of these he said were the outside connections monitoring my system. I presume the ads.efax.com is OK (i have an efax account) and Akamaitechnologies.com, server infrastructure provider, s/b OK too, right? So, I guess it's the ones below them.

Tech said this is what needs to be done:
    - remove errors and warnings
    - remove foreign address
    - remove third party ip address

Many concerns, including identify theft, etc. for me.

Can someone give me feedback and/or help on the above? Will be much appreciated.

Also, the ECS tech told me it would take a MicroSoft certified tech to get a "100% fix" and I would have to take my computer to a shop and the cost about $350-400. Then, of course, told me ECS can do it online and cost of $200. I can't afford either.

Also, he mentioned that my system compromise/hack/infection or whatever it s/b called is intertwined now with my ISP (Comcast), as well. And, he may have mentioned if I change my ISP (thinking of going to CenturyLink), it may fix this all the above. Does someone know if this correct?

Again, any assistance would be great. Thanks.

    216.52.233.134 is LOGMEIN

    91.190.217.40 is your Skype connection

Sounds like a load of BS to me. If you think your pc is infected:

Read this post, then post the requested log(s) in the Malware and Virus Removal forum.

Thanks! I'll go through the Malware/Virus Removal process.

However, I know what it is, but I don't use Skype. I've never downloaded it. I don't see it listed in my programs menu or program files (explorer). Don't you have to download the Skype app? Or, is it part of Windows? Can someone online connect to my PC with Skype?

The other connection, USER-58826C0986:1513 with no foreign address/state, is that my ISP (comcast) connection?

    Thanks again.

You have Microsoft Messenger. Since MS acquired Skype, messenger uses Skype related ip's (messenger has been phased out in favor of Skype).

Port 1513 seems to be used by Fujitsu Dynamic Disk Traffic Control (DTC)

    No 'foreign' connections in sight...

This issue is resolved. Sorry, I don't see where to close it. Also, Broni closed a my thread and kicked me out of the Malware Forum the post said permanently. As I explained to Broni several times I was not able to continue with the process because of work--new job and backlog of accounting work to do and I was working 7 days a week, and would try to get back to it when I could. He continually gave me the thumbs up sign in replies and on 11/11/13 he sent me a reply saying "we'll see how it goes" and never warned me I could possibly be barred from that forum. THAT'S JUST NOT FAIR. I don't have a problem with having the thread closed for inactivity, I've had a thread closed in a forum before. But, to bar me completely He should have at least warned me. By this he seems he was irritated or angry--he should of told me it was a major problem for him. This seems vindictive. I know he's just a volunteer. Why not just close the thread and say start over when you take the time. I asked him at one point if he wanted to close it and I start over at another time. I was not abusing his help or forum. I kept him notified continually what was happening. THIS IS NOT FAIR. And, I can't reply to him any longer, as well. I apologize to Broni for not being able to keep up with him, but to take a unilateral decision to kick me out of the forum is not fair

Thread tools --> Mark as resolved
    :)

It does seem unusual that Broni would ever do it out of vindictiveness, I can all but assure you this was not the cause. What seems more likely is that, as he is busy, he forgot what you said, and just banned you without taking into account your predicament. As (I hope you understand) he would if anyone else was just 'neglecting' the thread.

Thanks for the reply. Yep, that's not like him at all! I was floored and I couldn't understand it. Also, I'm tired most of the time because I'm working so much. So, I probably reacted a bit too strong. I could have at any time and it seems should have now cancelled the thread and got back to it with him later--and I asked him if that's what I should do or he wanted me to do. Also, I had to disconnect the PC from my internet connection to use on a laptop for work two weeks ago (I work at home most of the time) and could not download the apps and was not allowed to download anything to or through my laptop to a portable storage device. And, I didn't have time to reconnect the PC to the internet connection anyway. Yep, should have told him I couldn't continue and closed the thread. But, he seemed to understand--last thing he said, "we'll see how it goes." At least, give me warning and I would have closed the thread. Can you send him a message that I apologize for not being able to keep up and I did not intend to take advantage of his time or help? And, I will not start a thread and ask for assistance again in Malware or any forum, unless I know I will be able to complete the processes he (or anyone) gives me in a timely manner. I know he is busy. The last thing I would do is intentionally waste Broni's or anyone's time on this forum. I appreciate any and all help. I enjoy the interaction of WindowsBBS and with people like him and you. I believe he's helped me twice before! And, I think you have assisted me with an issue once or more. And, I've learned a lot from him, you and others on this forum about how to keep my systems working well, free of malware and just get my systems up and running when I thought they were dead, etc. I've been a member since 2007 and I've done nothing to get kicked out of a forum. I'm far from a "technically savvy" guy, and usually don't have $ to buy upgraded systems or another system if mine crashes and I can't figure it out, and health issues keep me from working a lot, so when I can work I have to totally focus on that..so WindowsBBS has been a great source just to keep going. I don't wish to lose it. And, especially so with Broni's forum, because this day & time, I'm always concerned about security--online banking, etc. I don't know of another forum that is as helpful and knowledgeable for Windows or computing in general as this one. Do you? And, I trust the advice I get here, because I've never had a problem with anything I was advised to do. Please, tell him I'll not post a thread for assistance again, until things die down at work and I can set up my PC again and focus on the process for a day. Thanks for your assistance and I would appreciate it if you would forward this post or give him a shout. Thanks!

I have PM'd (Private Messaged Broni, and he suggests you do too ;) I am more than sure that he will be happy to explain his thinking to you :)

    As for:
    :) :) :)

Again PM him and chat (civilly :p), as for the never opening threads etc. understand that whilst in the Malware and Virus Removal forum, it is very important (and hard I imagine) to control the influx of people that go their, this is not as big a problem in the other forums. (As whereas in the Malware and Virus Removal forum, strict and structured guidance is needed, in the others it is fine if you leave (not abandon) it, and let us know in a reply).
