I ended up messing the MBR using HDHacker tool accidently. After removing Linux , I was trying to set the MBR back to what is was before using HDHacker tool.
It showed, on Hard drive 0, sector 1 had error message, sector 2, 3,4 had some values while 5 and beyond had 0s.
So I copied sector 2- 5 and over wrote to sector 1-4, thus deleting the sector 1 and overwritting with 2 and so forth.

I did save sector 1- 5 as a file , as allowed by the tool.

After restarting the windows, it failed to load, saying Boot Device not found.
I understand I am totally doomed.

Just wondering if there is a way to solve this problem. I do not have windows repair or re-install disc, nor the product key to download iso file form microsoft. None did come with the purchase of the laptop.

Any help would be appreciated a bunch.
    Thanks.

Hi masipay, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Are you able to access the Advanced Recovery Options in Windows 8.1?

If not then on another computer you can download a Windows 8.1 ISO file, burn it to a DVD and you can boot the computer from the Windows 8.1 DVD to use to repair your system. Take a look here, How to download the official Microsoft Windows 8.1 ISO.

Once you have a Windows 8.1 DVD created then let me know.

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

Thanks for your response. If I had windows 8 or 8.1 disc, I wouldn't have a problem.
Downloading from that link requires windows key, which didn't come with my laptop, as in most cases now days. They are selling laptops with no recovery cds and no product key.

My concern is, before deciding to reinstall the windows, is there a way to fix the MBR which I messed up using HDHacker tool?
I have a back up of MBR that I saved with HDHacker before making any change.

Reinstalling windows is perhaps the final solution , even which is possible at this moment since I dont' have product key to download iso file from microsoft.

Hi Tony, Thanks for the link. It will probably save a day but what would I do with a trial version, how would I go to getting my copy of Windows 8 that came with the purchase of the laptop?

Using HBCD, I can access the C drive and Recovery Drive also the 'Push button' partitions.
Is there a way to invoke recovery using Windows Mini XP that comes with HBCD?
Or is there way a way to invoke Recovery at the start up of windows?

Since it says invalid partition table at the beginning of windows start up, i am not sure what would be my options.

Final question is, is there a way about to get Product Key from Acer or would it be waste of time trying to get through them, or microsoft? I know I can just call them up which I haven't done but why waste time if one of you have gone through it and know already.
    Thanks again.

During the recovery process the install will retrieve the Windows 8 key that is now stored in the bios. As long as it isn't the recovery partition that became corrupted your partitions should be recreated. If the recovery partition was wiped out then you need to purchase the recovery media from Acer.

    Reloading your Acer computer

Where is my Windows 8 product key?

    Thanks Whiskey.
Surprisingly, I was able rewrite the same old MBR back to where it was with MBR back up file and windows is working with UEFI bios mode(doesn't work with Legacy Bios). At least got to working, even though there still is the mess created by prior Linux installation/deletion.

Also using BelArc Adviser, I have found the Product Key ( I hope it is the correct one) ! -->> BelArc Adviser or Key finder <<--

    Issue:
Windows 8.1 doesn't let you create recovery Disc, it only opts for a USB or other drive but CD drive.

Recovery Management >> Create Factory Default Backup >> (with or without box checked for 'Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive') lets you create it to a USB or other USB drives only and not a CD drive.

    Question:
How to create recovery CD disc?
Is there a way to fix the 'Invalid partion table error'
below is the value retrieved from physical drive(MBR)0, sector 1 of MBR

    3.Ž...|Ž.Ž...|.........Ph..........€~..|..…..ƒ......ˆV.U.F...F...A..U..]r..U.u.....t..F.f`€~..t&fh....f.v.h..h.|h..h...BŠV.‹....ƒ..........|ŠV.Šv.ŠN.Šn...fas..N.u.€~.€.„Š..€.„U2.ŠV...]..>.}U.un.v...u.....d.ƒ....`.|....d.u.......f#.u;f.TCPAu2...r,fh....fh....fh....fSfSfUfh....fh.|..fah.....Z2...|.................2....‹..<.t.............+..d..$...$..Invalid partition table.Error loading operating system.Missing operating system...c{..
    [W...............fTW................................................U.

I believe this is where the Linux had made changes and I would like to clean reset the MBR.

any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated, so I wouldn't have to re-install windows.
    Thanks

You cannot create a recovery cd that will reinstall windows 8, a cd cannot store the gigabytes of data that is windows 8.
