    Hello,

I was trying to open a file.
A message appeared asking which program I would like to use to open the file.
I was unsure so chose one from a list already installed.
All my desktop icons now have white backgrounds.
    Can you help.

What was the file extension of the file? (Eg. '.jpg')

Which program did you choose from the list? And which program's were available to choose?

    Regards,

    Broni, Hello!

I know you are busy and try to refrain from coming on.

I sort of have similar problem and maybe they are related:

Except that my Office file icons went to orange instead of white.

If I try to open an Office file an "Contact computer maker..." window pops up, but, if I use Word or Excel short cut to access say, Word, then "Open" same file, it opens just fine.

I can edit etc but cannot open the file if I click on the applicable program icon, Word for example.

I scanned with Malawarebyte and Spybot: no malware etc found.

The computer is a Lenovo Desktop, and was working fine - specs are below.

It was dormant for couple weeks and when I began using it again, I noticed the change.

I am local opinion writer for our daily and tend to use Gmail to hold material for edit and then publish...transferring files between a Lenovo laptop, which is fine, and this computer via the Gmail account...

I mean I can edit etc, but the added steps are PIA inconvenient.

    I presume typical system

Processor is Intel Pentium G 649 CPU, 2.8 GHz

    RAM is 4GB,

    64 bit OS

    Ain't it fun?

Okay. I am an idiot...I eventually considered that the problem concerned Office files only, so figure associative link failed or whatever it is called and uninstalled office, and reinstalled...all is fine for me...

I do now know if same will benefit those who have found whitened icons...
