Just returned from vacation and restarted the PC. Had trouble with the keyboard not being recognized so I turned on the onscreen keyboard so that I could at least log in. I have turned that back off and the keyboard now works but every single thing that gets opened comes up maximized! This renders some things unusable and is incredibly annoying - how do I make this stop? All I can find is tons of threads where people are TRYING for this behavior.

Hi Blueberry, Your System Details would help. What is your OS?
What make of PC? Please take the time to fill in your "System" under UserCP, and don't forget to scroll to the bottom and SAVE before you close. Neil.

Everything is filled in - I don't know why it is not displaying.

    Dell Precision T3500
    Win7 Ultimate
    16GB RAM
    4 monitors, 2 dual cards

I did a system restore to the day before we left for vacation but the issue persists. Even things that normally cannot be maximized ARE.

OK, as Pete has reminded you, it should all display when allowed to.

How many Monitors are displaying the fault?
Have you tried one set up at a time to see if your cards are OK?
Have you sufficient Power to drive the rig? Neil.

Because the brilliant engineers at MS decided that Win7 no longer needed to remember/retain/reuse the last window position and size, long ago (almost 2 years now) I had purchased Window Manager from Desksoft to do it for me. (Absolutely essential with 4 monitors and the number of things I run simultaneously.) It runs in the background and I had completely forgotten about it as it requires no interaction. Turns out that somehow the Window Manager datafile became corrupt and gave everything a 0x0 size. Odd that it worked perfectly right up until shutdown before vacation. Removed the program, reinstalled the latest version and all is back to normal.
