You should also tell us why you want to replace the chip. How do you know the chip has failed and not your monitor, for example?

You can't "repair" a chip. You would have to replace it & I doubt if many of us have the tools & the knowledge to do it.

I have the tools, skills, training and knowledge to do component-level repairs on multi-layered circuit boards, but no pretty pictures! That is, no schematics to follow. While many components are labeled, many are not and manufacturers are not very forthcoming with their technical documentation.

Then there's my time. My tech services don't come cheap (unless volunteering on forums! ;)). Tearing down, cleaning, repairing, reassembling and testing takes time, not to mention the cost of parts. Since I cannot buy 100,000s of each part at hugely discounted wholesale volume prices (like PC, motherboard and graphics card makers can), replacement parts can be very expensive. Of course, if doing the work yourself, you don't pay me, but how much is your time worth?

This is why most electronics are not repaired these days. Major assemblies or whole devices are simply replaced. It's cheaper and often faster.

I agree with you there Bill but the answer was in the context of the question where ACSTEPHEN wanted to "repair" the chip.

For sure! I was just agreeing with you - in my own soap-box way. :D
