Do you "feel" it is a Windows problem? Apart from the mouse-over, I think it sounds like possible hardware problems.

Check inside the USB ports, are all the guides still intact? Where I work, a few people have complained of strange happenings and we find one or more of the USB ports are broken. The USB system can get burnt out if too many non-self powered devices are attached (for example, external hard drives that draw their power through the USB port).

Screen on...try putting the laptop into sleep mode before closing the lid. There are different modes of "sleep ". I know of several different ways that I might need to wake up computers where I work (shake or click the mouse, press the Ctrl key. press the Fn key, or then, press the power button). As Arie said, put in your system details, someone might know the methods of sleep your system uses.

"Wont turn on ", what happens? Nothing...or do you see any lights flash? Possible power problem? If so, and it is not the charger or battery, then it is the motherboard.

If it doesn't reproduce the same error every time, I would start suspecting hardware.

You can try updating drivers (from the laptop manufacturer's website), although, do not update the BIOS if your system is unstable.
