My back-up system for the last eighteen months - which has worked perfectly!

I use two Crucial SATA ssd, one is the 'C' partition where Windows 7 Home is installed, the other is a True Image clone of the 'C' partition, made usually every time updates are made to Windows. A check boot is made from the cloned disc to check the image is true.

Recently start up problems have started - I'm getting a "MBR missing . . ." message on boot.

CTRL+ALT+Delete to reboot and the bios shows no Master disc found.

Fortunately rebooting from the TI rescue disc and selecting Windows on the start screen results in a normal start but Windows then installs a new driver for the ssd.

Visited Crucial for updated drivers but they warn that the latest driver may not make any difference but will not do any damage. Not very cheering but was true!

Obviously Windows is not keeping the ssd driver in place when the machine is shut down resulting in the MBR message.

Has anybody else had this problem and solved it?

    Addendum:
Found Arie's warning about update KB 2823324. I have removed it but not yet tested whether it has made any difference.

Microsoft Recommends Uninstalling Windows 7 Security Update KB2823324

    KB2823324 is easy to remove:
    1. Click Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features and then click the View installed updates link near the top left.

    2. Over near the top right of the "Installed Updates" window, click once in the (Search Installed Updates) box and type in:

      kb2823324

    3. If you have "KB2823324" installed, you should now only see a "Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2823324)" update in the list.

      • If it's not there, you're done. You can close ([X]) the "Installed Updates" window.

      • If it is there, right-click it, select Uninstall, click Yes to confirm, and when it's done, click Restart to reboot.

Thanks for answering, but as I said in my post I have already removed it. I shall be testing the result tonight.

    Since:
    1. your question "Has anybody else had this problem and solved it?" was still in your post after you had edited it,

      and

    2. the answers are "Yes" and "Yes ",
I thought I'd post what I did with the hope it would benefit others.

Here's hoping your testing proves successful. :)

Thanks again for replying. If both answers are really yes, I would be very grateful if you could tell me how you fixed the problem of disappearing drivers.

After removing KB2823324 nothing has changed, I have to keep the machine in 'Sleep' and not shut down to avoid the "BootMgr is missing " message.

Using the Windows 7 install disc Start-up Repair could not detect a problem.
    Using Commands: fixmbr - success
    Fixboot -success
RebuildBcd - No Windows systems found.

Using the TI boot disc and the Acronis Loader the 7 installation boots normally but then proceeds to load some drivers - keyboard, wireless mouse, and the SSD driver.
All the cookies had gone too!
This is obviously a Windows problem - it can't see the SSD because the driver has gone whilst the bios has no such problem. I hesitate to do a repair installation but will probably try to get an answer from Microsoft.

64 bit. All up-dates installed except KB2823324 which I removed. I now find that System Restore has lost all the restore points most of which are added by Windows Update prior to an update.
