Microsoft is investigating behavior wherein systems may fail to recover from a reboot or applications fails to load after security update 2823324 is applied. Microsoft recommends that customers uninstall this update. As an added precaution, Microsoft has removed the download links to the 2823324 update. For information about how to uninstall this update, view the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article KB2839011

Arie, I'm running Vista 32, I have the above mentioned update.
Would you recommend that I delete it?

There should be no need - the KB Arie posted applies to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 only.

No, Microsoft recommends that customers uninstall this update.

No exceptions. You may not have problems now, but get problems later, and if you get into a reboot-loop it'll be too late for a lot of people to be able to 'recover' it themselves.

I haven't seen one post on 4 of the message boards that I visit about this reboot-loop.

And I bet that MS fixes it even if it isn't uninstalled. Wonder how many people don't know about this article. Bet that more don't than do.

Mine is staying. Unless MS has an update that removes it automatically. Seems to me that they would have done this. You know one of those that they slip in and you don't know that they did.

Well, Microsoft is investigating behavior where systems may not recover from a restart.

So when you install the update you have to reboot, at which point your system may fail to restart.

Also as to removing it, this is Microsoft's advice:

    It's easy to remove:
    1. Click Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features and then click the View installed updates link near the top left.

    2. Over near the top right of the "Installed Updates" window, click once in the (Search Installed Updates) box and type in kb2823324

If you have "KB2823324" installed, you should now only see a "Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2823324)" update in the list.

      • If it's not there, you're done. You can close ([X]) the "Installed Updates" window.

      • If it is there, right-click it, select Uninstall, click Yes to confirm, and when it's done, click Restart to reboot.

And that's just the 3rd party software that they are aware of. It will take some time for MS to analyze all of the error reports that come in and trace the causes of the issues, thus the determination that all should remove it.

Now ... ... how do they get error reports if everyone remove it ... :p ... ?

I don't mean error reporting service, people send emails reports, report at forums, reports from partners, reports from 3rd party software, etc. Obviously, MS has error reports of affected users and from their own test computers.

Thanks for that, Christer. I just finished downloading and installing the update fix, and everything went well. But I wasn't having any problems with the "bad" update it supposedly fixed, so...
