    Yesterday my Laptop which has Windows Vista suddenly displayed the flowing error when opened: 'Fatal error c00000034 applying update operation 172 of 73764 (_0000...)'

    I tried fixing it automatically as indicated when i start the Laptop and after several minuets it says it cant fix the problem automatically and displays the above mentioned Error

    My question: Is there a problem with the hard disk? or some other components are damaged?
    What could have caused this error to occur?

    Usually i use the Laptop to play games on it and i access the internet through wireless connection

    Yea, you can also use the cleanup process listed in the March 7, 2011 post listed by Mattman.

    So is this error occurring because of failure of hardware video, hardware sound or because of the hard disk?

    You were given at least three things to try, you only tried one, so I suggest you follow up with the other suggestions.

    Arie, the thing is that 3 weeks ago i took my Laptop to a service and they replaced my hard disk, it being damaged;
    i want to go today again to the service that's why i needed to know if the hard disk that they put failed again or if there is an other problem with it.
    ive Automatically repair, restore, recover etc; basically i tried all the advance settings options;
    nothing worked

    It doesn't appear to be a hardware problem. It says "fatal error" during the installation of the update.

    You could check the file system and hard disk by booting to the Windows PE command prompt and enter
    CHKDSK /r
    it could take several hours to run. Another option is to run the HDD manufacturer's testing utility to see if the drive has any performance problems.

    As I said though, it looks like software, not hardware.

    Talk to the service people. They might just happen to have a back-up of your system. I keep back-ups for at least several weeks, in case something like this happens and they might cover it under warranty (if they want return business). [Personally, I would, because these things sometimes happen after a rebuild.]

    Talk to them.

    Matt

    I agree with Matt, I don't think this is hardware related, but test your drive.

    thank you mattman and Arie for giving me the advice;
    you were right mattman it wasn't a problem with hard software;
    the people from service told me that it was indeed because of an attempt to update software and it failed because of lack or battery and power the laptop shut down and couldnt finish the update; that apparently messed it up a little;
    im closing thread
