I wanted to watch a webinar. The site performed it's own check on my system. It said my system did not have Windows Media Player. I went to the download site and downloaded it. When I tried to install it I received a message that windows media player was already installed. I could not watch the webinar. Why can't that site find my WMP? What can I do to fix it?

Hi abosleyjr, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

To make sure Windows Media Player is installed click Start and in the Search box type Turn Windows Features On or Off and hit enter. The Turn Windows Features On or Off window opens. Expand the Media Features category and ensure that there is a check in the checkbox next to Windows Media Player. If the checkbox is empty for Windows Media Player then put a checkmark in the checkbox and click Ok when done. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

When you click Start and in the Search box type Windows Media Player does it show up in the results? If it does then you should be able to open it with no problems.

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

I have entered my system details. I see that I initially said the OS was Windows 7, I guess, but he operating system is Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2. So, let's start over.

Windows Media Player works. I use it every day. The problem is the automatic system the webinar provider uses to check my system to be sure I have everything I need tells me I don't have windows media player, and I do. I don't know how to get that providers check system to find my WMP.

    That's important information;)

Check out the site that hosts the webinar and see if that have a support section since it could be a common problem.

I use firefox for the browser and that turned out to be the issue. Apparently there is an add on for WMP when used with firefox. After using their video tests it finally told me to download the firefox add on for WMP. I did that and went back to the site and tried again. Although the webinar was now an archive it played with WMP.

    Thanks everyone. Issue resolved.
    :)
