Does it wander when you are not touching/moving the mouse? For that, I check the surface you are moving it on, that it is not reflective. Try a mouse pad (with a non-reflective surface).

Anything been caught on the laser (dust, maybe some liquid been smeared over it)?

Have you installed drivers for it? If a mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc, come with a drivers disk, I don't install them unless I think they could be helpful. Uninstall any special drivers and see how it works without them. If you need special drivers, look for an updated set at the mouse manufacturer's website.

Please provide any further details about how or when it happens.

    Matt

Thanks Mattman. Because of the wandering it is painful creating a reply! The answer to all your questions is No. It happens spontaneously when I create text - especially e-mail.
It is happening as I create this reply -- I am holding the mouse (wireless) with one hand and using one finger with the other. Laborious!

Have you another mouse to try, preferably USB/PS/2?

Thanks Peter. I only have one mouse - a Logitech CE. Maybe I should check with them to see if they have any info.

Follow the same process as you did when initially filling in the details - edit what is already there....

Hmm - not immediately apparent that you are using a laptop without Googling the model in your system specs :(

Then please tell me what I should do? And why is that important? Just asking is all ...

    Thanks,

Laptops have a touchpad, which is intimately involved with the "mouse" (it is the mouse when a mouse is not connected).

I think the system details I saw said a HP Pavillion (?)

What happens when only using the touchpad?

Mattman, thanks for explaining that. I have never used the touchpad.
The TouchFreeze program seems to be working but it is not perfect and my cursor still wanders occasionally.
I have updated my system and am now using a Dell Inspiron laptop.

If you never use the touchpad I suggest you turn it off - check out the manual, I'm not familiar with Dells.

I would like to mark this thread as "resolved" but I can't find how to do this. Why is it not more obvious? What am I missing?
