I have a Dell Dimension running Windows XP. I normally leave it up and running. Recently I went to use it and found it displaying a blue screen. I powered it down and then powered it back up. When the Windows XP welcome screen came up I couldn't select my user account because the mouse didn't work. The mouse works when plugged into another computer.

    Please help.

Hi Ron Chervenak, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Does the mouse connect to a USB or a PS/2 port on the motherboard? If the mouse is a USB mouse have you tried connecting the mouse to a different USB slot on the motherboard and seeing if that works?

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

    Blue screen as in BSOD?

Follow these instructions to post a Dump Data Log.

If you do not have a dump, ensure that your machine is configured to write out a dump by following the directions from microsoft

It's a USB mouse and I did try plugging it into a different USB port, but it still didn't work.

I will do the best I can with the system details soon.
