Hello guys. Im on a computer at work.
My computer turns on. All lights and fans are running but acts as if the computer is still in sleep mode. The monitor is on but nothing from the computer. The monitor tells me 'no signal from computer' and also says 'hit any key to wake computer up' or something to that nature.

Ive tried taking the cmos battery out and putting it back in but the problem still exist.

Ive checked all cables inside and out. All seems to be fine as far as the eye can see.

Any ideas? This is tough communicating with you guys since im having to use a compu at work. I will most likely just start using my phone.
    Thanks for any help.

Probably not an issue with the monitor if it is telling you that there is no signal - the hit any key message may be generic. You will have to troubleshoot this issue by trial and error ....

Connect the monitor to another computer to see if it works - if it does that eliminates the monitor. Also worthwhile trying another lead when testing the monitor on another computer if it does not work.

Also worthwhile connecting another monitor to your computer if possible.

Given that the monitor and lead are OK there is likely an issue with your graphics card or onboard graphics chip - as you have not completed your System Details we are in the dark as to which you have.

If you have a plugin graphics card remove it with the computer powered down and clean the contacts with an alcohol based cleaner, wiping up/down the contacts, not across from end to end. Reinstall and test. If no change there is an issue with the graphics, probably hardware.

Given that there is no monitor image on boot up the possibility of being stuck in sleep mode does not apply

If I might add - note when you removed the battery, you reset the BIOS information. This means the date, time, and drive information is likely reset. This also means if you download and attempt to install anything, there could be an issue with timestamps.

So, the very first time you are able to boot, go directly into the BIOS Setup Menu and properly set the date and time, and ensure your drive information and boot are set.

Also, I hope you unplugged the computer from the wall, and you touched bare metal of the case interior to discharge any static in your body BEFORE reaching in, or else further damage may have occurred.

If swapping monitors does reveal the problem is with the computer and not the monitor (and that's what it looks like), I would want to ensure good power by swapping in a known good PSU.

I sure didnt know that about the BIOS. Thanks Bill for the heads up.

I installed a new graphics card and the problem still exist. My next move is gonna be to install a new power supply. I really hope this is what it needs because i dont know where to go from there. Maybe the mobo if not the psu.

Thanks for the advice guys...im off to buy a new power supply and will update after i find out what happens next.

Well I would hate for you to buy a new PSU if that is not the problem.

Well..i installed a new power supply and the problem is still there. This is very aggravating.

I dont know what else to do but replace the mobo....unless somebody has an idea.

I replaced the graphics card...the power supply...and the monitor along with all new cables.

If we had your System Details we could check if your mobo has on board graphics as well and suggest you test those out.

It's beginning to look like a mobo problem as you have replaced or substituted with known good everything else.

I agree. You might try running with one stick of RAM at a time. And disconnect everything not needed to boot, like extra drives and USB devices not needed.

And make sure CPU's fan is still connected.
